Odd use of tooltips

It is nice to have tooltips in general. But the implementation isnt the best IMO.

Are they really necessary here?
See details is self explanatory, and the plugin just repeats the plugin name

(Also, why does the button have a shadow until you hover it? It is supposed to be the opposite)

Since im a new user, im not allowed to post more than 1 embed, so i guess i have to use the comments and spam my own post…

Here i actually want a tooltip, cus i still dont know what these are:

I dont recall tooltips always being up here, but nice they are added cus i lacked those in the beginning. But why does one of them stay on the same line? It is blocking me from seeing a button and pressing it.

Hey @JohnD

Welcome to the MainWP community!
Thank you for your thoughts.

Please feel free to leave feedback and suggestions about UI improvements on our official feedback site. That way, others can vote for it, letting us know what we should prioritize: https://feedback.mainwp.com

The tooltip for Add New Items does seem like a usability issue, and we will be addressing it in a future release.

But does this not fit the UX category? “Discussion about the user interface of MainWP, how features are presented, including language and UI elements.”

The link you provide seems more like feature requests and such. I dont imagine many people actually voting for things as uninteresting as tooltips compared to features they want. I do feel like this fits UX more.

I agree with John. There are a lot of tooltips that are just in the way, like the one in the header or without a very useful purpose. That’s not really a feature request.

I recently tried to remove the tooltips with CSS, but then the useful tooltips that show error messages in update modals as well.

These icons mean “WordPress Core, Plugins, Themes”

Thank you both for the feedback.

We will be addressing that tooltip in the header in a future release.

We’re planning to improve the tooltips based on feedback, making sure they’re both functional and necessary.
We’ll also add tooltips where they’re currently missing.

Hope you will consider the other examples i mentioned. There are probably more than those, but i find it hard to argument for why the “Deactivate” button needs to repeat the name of the plugin, which is already right there.

Tooltips are great when things arent self explanatory. But they are very annoying and unecessary otherwise.

Those 3 icons i dont find self explanatory, but “See details” got the tooltip instead.
